In this horrible economy I am virtually noticing one thing.  People and businesses are trying desperately to cut down costs while trying to figure out how to increase revenues.

Whenever I read books, articles, or forums that successful people hang out in or have written, I notice one theme.  Using a solid team and advisors to make sure you have people keeping an eye and assisting in areas of your business that you simply don’t have time to focus on as much as you’d like.

Being an accountant and an advisor in those terms, the companies and individuals that always succeeded incredibly well used their advisors wisely and to the fullest.

The companies that struggled always had an excuse that an advisor or consultant was too expensive.

Now I’m not saying you should just go out and hire an expensive consultant to come in and tell you what you should be doing differently.

I’m saying that perhaps you should sit down with members of your team and/or figure out areas you need/can improve in and bounce ideas off others who perhaps have new insight or a bit more expertise in that subject.

This is just what we do at the Collinsworth Group.  We have determined after much study that in good times and bad businesses want new and improved ways to market their business and stay in touch with their customers.

The web is the spot to do so.  However, I’m also seeing a lot of companies now offering these services whether they know what they’re doing or not because there is a huge opportunity and need for Internet marketing for local business.

Why?  Because it’s cheaper, faster, and there’s the ability to accomplish much more using the web than local media.

Even the big boys are catching on to this and setting up departments to manage online advertising.

Bottom line:  Use your advisors.  You need to be spending money right now in the areas of development, accounting, tax, marketing, advertising, and so forth.

See where you can scale costs elsewhere that are irrelevant to the growth of the company.  Most companies do things backwards and cut out the costs that stimulate the growth.
